LIBRARY HAPPENINGS AROUND THE DISTRICT:
This first nine weeks was extremely busy as our librarians have worked doubly hard to maintain the excellent library service to our teachers, students and parents, as well as take on the added duty of providing the Gifted & Talented extension activities for our K-8 GT students.

Timmerman Pumpkin Book Characters
K. Leblanc, Librarian
Our elementary librarians have been busy teaching students how to use the library and how to take care of the books, plus introducing the new Bluebonnet books, teaching the Big 6 research skills and introducing the district databases, World Book Online, ABC Clio, Ebsco, and Nettrekker.  Book and author celebrations were held on several campuses, including a Storybook Stars Parade at Wieldand ES. Our librarians developed lessons on space, explorers, Marco Polo, and the human body for our GT classes. Kindergarteners explored the library looking for the missing Gingerbread Man hidden in several of our libraries. Several of our campuses had Pumpkin Decorating Contests characterized as their favorite storybook characters.

K. Lamarre- MES Librarian

Our middle and high school librarians have been busy booktalking the new Lone Star and Tayshas books, plus teaching the Big6 research skills of writing good questions, finding resources, note taking, citing sources, and website evaluation.

WLES Library-A. Runyen, Librarian
Both elementary and middle school librarians have been busy planning and holding "Out of the World" book fairs.

Librarians integrated several technology applications using the Web2.0 tools of Wix, Prezi, Animoto, and RSS feeds into their lessons.  Students at PCMS learned how to create digital book trailers (like movie trailers but for books) and students at MES created graphs using the Promethean Board in the library.

Our librarians continue to be leaders on their campuses by being actively involved in staff developments, PTO presentations, DAAC, CAAC, Literacy Committees, and daily video announcements.  Our elementary librarians manage the Accelerated Reading programs and produce the daily video announcements on their campuses.  Also, many of our elementary librarians have planned Family Literacy Nights on their campuses.
